According to a tipster, Wind Mobile is going to introduce their prepaid service on July 21st. Don’t be confused with the current Pay Before offering which is similar to prepaid in payment style but only applicable for voice/text and data plans. The new truly prepaid service will instead focus on pay-per-use services such as voice, texting, and maybe data.
Rates are as followed; nationwide calling will be billed at $0.25/minute, sent text messages at $0.15/text while receiving will remain free. Prepaid customers will also have all the “call control” features such as caller ID, call waiting, and missed call alerts, however interestingly no voicemail. As far as the vouchers go, vouchers less than $40 will expire in 60 days, while vouchers priced at $40 and above will expire in 180 days. We assume with any prepaid service, the remaining balance will be carried over if the account is topped up before expiry. With the introduction of a prepaid component alongside their current regular plans, Wind is looking to offer services for all types of consumers. While nationwide calling at $0.25/minute is great, having reasonable prepaid data rates will surely differentiate Wind from other various MMVO prepaid providers.
Update: Looks like the prepaid market just got a little more interesting. Other than having the conventional pay by the minute talking plans, the new prepaid service will introduce add-ons that can spice up the service such as unlimited calling periods and adding voicemail. Also from the looks of it, data add-ons will not be implemented at launch.
